“Design is a commercial interest. Art is a personal one.”

– Dave Snyder, Firstborn SVP

Born in 2009 as the brainchild of two founding partners after years working with large agencies on the client side as part of fourtine 500 companies.

In early 2009, two corporate grunts daydreamed about owning their own creative agency after years of working with Fortune 500 companies and managing other creative agencies. They would talk for hours about “we’d do this” and “we wouldn’t do that”. So they started planning. And planning.

On July 13th, 2009, Test Monki was born.

So many people ask us “how’d you come up with the name” that we thought the answer warranted a full explanation. The name did take 6 months of strategy and research. Here’s the short version on how the name, Test Monki, was conceived—

One grueling day at working in the corporate world, one of the partners was getting pretty annoyed with work and let out a scream, “Argh. I feel like a test monkey sometimes!” The light bulb went off, the other partner loved it, and Test Monki was born.

And come on, who doesn’t love a monkey?
